Social Liberal Forum Conference 2019

For our ninth annual conference, the SLF will focus on the theme of Freedom from Poverty.
We are delighted to announce that Ed Davey, home affairs spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats and former secretary of state for energy in the Coalition government (2012-2015), will deliver the Beveridge Lecture this year about "Climate Justice - How to Decarbonise Capitalism and Tackle Poverty".
THEME: Freedom from Poverty
Whilst Brexit has dominated the news headlines, the increasing number of stories related to benefit cuts and increasing poverty have been sidelined.
This is a national scandal when the issue of poverty should be a top priority in British politics today.
Stretching beyond the actions of just this government, the blame for rising deprivation and poverty in the UK can be laid at the feet of successive governments since 1979 when the Conservatives transformed British politics to usher in a new neoliberal consensus. Beyond this, there are also other important factors to consider, amongst them are the impact of global warming and wars creating global inequality and migration, and the impact of disruptive technologies in replacing jobs.
This year our speakers, panels and discussions at conference will focus on how to free people from poverty and the radical ideas needed to make it happen.
Speakers include Irina Von Wiese MEP for London, Sophie in t'Veld MEP (Dutch D66), Ed Davey MP, Wera Hobhouse MP and William Wallace.

You may book at the Concession rate if one of these applies:
- You are in full-time education
- You are receiving state benefits due to being unemployed, the dependent spouse of an unemployed person, or you are on income support
- If your main source of income is the state pension
- If you are wageless or on a low income
You may book at the Youth rate if you are under the age of 26.
The Concession and Youth rate are offered on an 'honour system' basis - we do not ask for proof of eligibility.
However, the Concession and Youth rates are loss-making for us so we ask conference-goers to please only select the reduced rate tickets if the criteria genuinely apply to you. Thank you.
